Linking climate and disaster risk finance with adaptive social protection

The World Bank’s Global Shield Financing Facility (GSFF) and its donors (the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Luxembourg; and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany), in collaboration with the World Food Programme, will host a session titled "Closing the Protection Gap for the Most Vulnerable – Linking Climate and Disaster Risk Finance with Adaptive Social Protection under the Global Shield" at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event will take place on Thursday, 21st November, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm (local time in Baku) at the Benelux-EIB Pavilion.

This session will convene country representatives and partners implementing GSFF-financed programs to discuss the crucial role of pre-arranged financing solutions in enhancing resilience for the most vulnerable communities. A panel discussion will feature insights on linking disaster risk financing (DRF) with adaptive social protection (ASP) programs, highlighting how innovative financial strategies can extend targeted support to those most affected by climate and disaster risks.
