Intensifying droughts threaten the livelihoods of millions of pastoralists across Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. This case study, part of the Adaptation and Resilience Solutions in Action series, explores the US$360 million DRIVE project, which offers pastoralists a package of satellite-based livestock insurance, digital savings, and financial literacy training, alongside better access to livestock markets. In its first three years, DRIVE issued more than 570,000 insurance policies benefiting over 3.2 million people, with women-led households holding 55% of policies. It also helped Somalia pass its first law on takaful (Islamic-compliant) insurance.

This case study is part of the "Adaptation and Resilience Solutions in Action" series which showcases how countries and partners are addressing climate risks and building resilience through innovative policies, programs, and financing solutions.
